Cataplana, both a tantalizing Portuguese dish and the vessel it’s cooked in, captures the essence of coastal flavours in a clam-shaped pot. This culinary gem brims with a seafood symphony—clams, prawns, and fish mingle with onions, tomatoes, garlic, and aromatic spices. Encased within the cataplana cookware, this medley steams to perfection, infusing every bite with the essence of the sea. As the lid clamps shut, locking in the savoury alchemy, it beckons diners to gather ’round, sharing both the dish and the joy of communal dining. The word cataplana refers not only to the utensil but also to the dishes that are prepared in it. The characteristics of this pan allow a wide range of dishes to be created that are a delight for all the senses and are good for one’s heart, as the cataplana enables little fat to be used in recipes.
